Top 3 Best-Written Video Games

It takes a lot to make a great game. You have to get all the key elements right. The gameplay, story, art style, and challenges must all work together. Even though the gameplay is up there as the most important element in a game, the story is a close second.

.

Many games have immersive plots that keep gamers glued for hours of gameplay. The strong character building makes gamers feel connected to the protagonists and antagonists alike. The unexpected twists and fulfilling ending keep the game memorable years later.

.

Most well-written video games

While there are many video games with excellent writing, we’ll try to keep this list short by focusing on the top three.

.

Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 is more than just a visual magnificence.  One may even say it has the best video game storylines. The narrative storytelling is outstanding throughout the world. Not to mention the dialogues among characters that are so fluid and relatable as if the characters are sharing your sentiments.

.

Gamers don’t need long to realize the quality of the writing. Right after the tutorial, the dialog between Geralt and Vesemir is convincing enough. The writing team lead by Jakub Szamalek definitely did a terrific job on writing, editing, and rewriting each scene. It’s no wonder gamers love replaying the game simply to enjoy the story.

.

Metal Gear

The Metal Gear series is another good example of best story-rich games. They’re practically theaters in game form. The story has interesting characters and interactions that push the story forward with plenty of actions.

.

Kojima deliberately writes the Metal Gear series to be insane. Breaking the fourth wall is the norm for the Metal Gear series ever since the first one. A notable one is when the Psycho Mantis read your memory card and ask if you enjoy the games you play.

.

Dragon Age – Origins

This game is a decade old and yet gamers still see the need to praise its greatness every now and then. Are they to blame? Certainly not. Blame the game creators for making such a wonderful game with excellent writing.

.

David Gaider, the lead writer of Dragon Age Origins is a world-builder at heart. For some, his worlds feel similar to the one J.R.R Tolkien made for his trilogy. The narrative is well thought of too. In addition, almost everything has a backstory. Even the weapons have their own backstories.

.

Talking about backstories, we should also discuss the elves. They have all the generic telltales such as pointy-ears, lithe, and affinity with magic. Their backstory, however, is so much darker than the elves you’ll find in many other games.

.

RPG fans also love the dialogues in Dragon Age that make each character stand out and unique. Players need to tend to each character in different ways because the characters judge your actions. There’s no one size fits all when it comes to character handling.

.

OK, so those are the three video games that many gamers agree to have top-of-the-line writings. Is your favorite game one of them? If not, feel free to tell us your version of the best-written video games of all time.
